What to expect at the Hellenic Motor Museum

The Hellenic Motor Museum follows the automobile’s development through four chronological sections, with displays arranged across three floors. It opened to the public in March 2011 and is located within the Capitol complex.

The entrance is on the 4th floor. The Visitor’s Manual describes an experience that moves from early automobiles to later milestones, with separate themes on Greek automotive ideas and the mechanics behind the machines. The museum is wheelchair accessible.

The Capitol complex also includes an auditorium, a simulator, a road-safety education room, an event space, a café and a shop. Food and beverages are not allowed inside the museum.

Cars and collection highlights

Cars and collection highlights

The collection includes early automobiles, notable twentieth-century models and displays about design and engineering. On the 4th floor, you’ll find cars from the 1910s and 1920s, alongside a 1930s garage containing more than 3,000 objects.

The permanent exhibition “Made by Hellas,” also on the 4th floor, focuses on Greek contributions and ideas involving cars in Greece and abroad. On the 5th floor, milestone cars from the late 1930s to the 1960s share space with “Transparency,” an exhibition about internal engine parts mounted in front- and rear-drive chassis.

The 3rd-floor section features Italian automotive designs from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Named collection cars include Paul Newman’s Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing, Robert Plant’s 1959 Chrysler Imperial and a 1979 Cadillac Seville Gucci. A 1906 Ford Model N is another museum highlight.
